Hanenbos is situated on a hillside where you can walk to your heart’s content amidst the beautiful landscapes of the Zenne Valley and the Pajottenland. 

The area is a real walkers’ and cyclists’ paradise full of hills and valleys, forests, watercourses, green meadows, rolling fields and eye-catching views. 

Nature lovers can also indulge themselves during a walk in the Hallerbos with its famous blue sea of hyacinths.

Those who prefer to cycle will undoubtedly enjoy the beautiful cycle route along the Brussels-Charleroi canal and the city of Halle with its cosy city centre, numerous tourist hotspots, a shopping street and many welcoming pubs and restaurants.

Things to do in and around Hanenbos

Patchamama petting zoo and ice cream farm

Do you like farm animals and ice cream? You will find Patchamama within a half an hour walk from Hanenbos. There are various cuddly baby animals for toddlers, which they can help take care of. As a reward, the children get home-made ice cream. Primary school children who are already able to help take care of the animals also learn to make bread and chocolate paste and help with the preparation of lunch. In bad weather, a craft activity is organised in the afternoon. Of course, the older ones will also get ice cream afterwards.

Herisem mill

Would you like to travel to the past with a time machine? An hour's walk from Hanenbos  will take you to the Herisem mill.  The Herisem Paper Mill and the Former Winderickx Cardboard Factory in Alsemberg is a nineteenth-century industrial complex that grew out of an old paper mill dating from 1536. The former site also consists of a farm with a grain mill. At the Herisem mill, pre-schoolers and  primary school children can get to know life on the farm or the operation of the Paper Mill better.

Bezoekerscentrum De Lambiek

Do you already know the Lambiek beers? Discover, taste and learn all the secrets of the Lambiek beers from the Zenne valley and  Pajottenland. The De Lambiek Visitor Centre immerses you in the flavours, smells, sounds and textures of the Lambiek beer. The centre is open to both individual visitors and groups. A visit includes access to the exhibition space, an exclusive video exhibition about the brewing process and afterwards a small tasting glass of Lambiek beer for the adults.
